Character Study: Lysta

Hey everyone, welcome back after the weekend! Already ready to escape the weekly grind? I know I am. Fortunately, we have another Character Study for you - this time from Lysta, a Relliven Elf from the Shywood forest in Irretai! (Don’t worry, we’ll have a World Lore Wednesday explaining what all those words mean soon!)

Ahh, how long has it been since I last saw the sky from my home, smelled the wind blowing through the trees, or even felt nature under my feet? How was I to know when I was sent here that the air smelled fetid, or that the buildings stood so close together that you always feel closed in upon? So long as I can remember my home, though, I believe I can persevere and complete the task at hand.

Born as an only child to my parents, my life had been a simple one: taken in by the druidic order of the Hallowed Reynir, my wonderful teacher Ethren taught me my whole life to respect the land around me and to grow with it. When I pledged myself to the path of the leaf, I met my best friend Almr - a leaf Leshy who always stays by my side. After I graduated from my training, I went on to my first assignment to assist and oversee the Trell Farmlands with the knowledge and powers that I had gained. The land was lush and fertile, and working the land and maintaining its health brought much pleasure. My time at the farm, though, wound up feeling both too long and too brief - for my relationship with Harmellen, the farm overseer, started to sour as he tried to take advantage of his position. I had to report him to the council while, at the same time, asking for a transfer away from the farm that I spent 50 years working on.

The ordeal was heartwrenching, but finally they sent me to the druids personal garden. Fortunately though, the move turned out to be a welcome one - albeit lonely, given only one other caretaker lived and worked there. But I got to spend my time basking in the sunlight, surrounded by the land and plants that I tended to everyday, going into town only when I needed something the immediate land could not provide. I spent my next 58 years tending to both the land and my soul, basking in the peace of life until I was called before the council - and, well, that brings me to my current predicament: living in a small hovel in an ugly city. I spend my days with a gloomy man and his daughter, although at least she actually respect the land and what it gives - one of the only one’s I’ve met upon my journey who does…

As for what happens next? Well, I know that trouble besets the natural world around the city. I spend my time investigating, hoping to get to the bottom of things soon so I can leave this rotten place and return to nature, where I belong.
